Turmeric

India produces nearly the whole world’s turmeric output and consumes 80% of it. It is today the largest exporter of turmeric (approximately 90%) to the Middle East, the UK, USA and Japan. With its inherent qualities, Indian turmeric is considered the best in the world.

Turmeric is a very important spice in India and finds extensive use in Indian cuisine. Besides food flavouring, turmeric’s therapeutic properties are relied on to purify the blood, remedy skin conditions, treat stomach and liver ailments and aid digestion. It is also used as a cosmetic.

Processing Care

Extra care is essential to ensure that freshly unearthed raw turmeric rhizomes retain their attractive yellow colour and characteristic aroma.

The fingers and rhizomes of turmeric are boiled separately for 30 to 40 minutes until bubbles and white fumes emanate. They are then drained and dried in the sun for 10 to 15 days until they become dry and hard.

The dry turmeric is then cleaned and polished mechanically at our modern processing units in hygienic conditions to make powder. Our units have an installed capacity of about 500 metric tons.
